about
the school

Chris said to Tom in a moment of unthinking "Well don't allow them to be abused Tom, take them out of here and start your own school"  and he did.  He borrowed money, built timber classrooms and opened for pupils.  Tom found he could not turn any child away, no matter what their financial circumstances, and it soon became clear that the income from fees was insufficient to pay the outgoings.  Teachers were unpaid and then Tom cound he could not keep up with the loan repayments.  As the loan was not from a bank but what we would call "a loan shark" in the UK he was at real risk of being found dead in a ditch and the dream he had of a school for the poor of Bwaise.

Chris transferred the amount of £4000 to a British businessman in Kampala who negotiated a settlement with the money lender and a weight was lifted off Tom's shoulders.

The school was now free to grow.
