about
the school

Chris encouraged Northamptonshire Scouts to adopt the Outspan School as its project and they poured money into buying new land and putting up permanent classrooms, the original ones were being eaten by termites.

But Tom had another problem to which Chris responded.  The band was ill equipped and so Chris organised the collection of instruments from various sources including the closing mineworkers bands in Derbyshire.  He personally donated several instruments and somehow got them to Uganda.  He also equipped more than 40 schools with typewriters.  A luxury in the early 90s.

Now 20 years on the school is florishing, though still short of money because of Tom's kind heart, it has permanent buildings and its pupils are progressing well.

The band plays at Government, Scouting and Personal functions such as marriages and birthdays.  The income from the band is used to pay the school fees of its children who have now progressed to Secondary School but now the band needs new uniforms.
